Planning the marketing budget has never been my strong point. Sure, I like spending money and, of course, I know advertising spend is an important pillar in the overall marketing structure. But I’ve always felt that brand awareness is something that shouldn’t be bought, but earned. A few years ago, back when inbound marketing was starting to gain popularity, I read about engagement transactions.
Basically, when we ask someone to stop what they are doing and take time to read our post, like our tweet, visit our website or join our email list – that’s a transaction. We are asking them for their time and attention. Yet marketers expect people to do these things for nothing. Or worse, because they think the post, tweet, website or email newsletter is payment enough. “Look! I’m giving you the opportunity to consume my advertising! You lucky thing.”
What we have found in building our network and customer base, is that the highest return relationships begin by us giving without any strings attached. There’s really no better way for people to get to know you and the problems you solve than by offering to serve them.
On that note, I’m incredibly excited to announce Telux has launched free yoga classes designed for Startups and office workers in Manchester.
“Your customer doesn’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”
